Over VOLUME 68 – The Guide to Bursting Bubbles
Architecture and design have a long legacy of operating from inside their respective bubbles: reinforcing their own aesthetics, logic, networks and vocabulary with the effect of becoming self-referential and exclusive. These bubbles shape who architects collaborate with, how projects take form, and ultimately, who benefits from spatial production.

Marking the occasion of VOLUME’s contribution to the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Carlo Ratti, VOLUME 68 hosted 13 conversations in which architects and designers meet inspiring figures outside of their bubble to find points of engagement and exchange notes on professional practices.

Over VOLUME 68 – The Guide to Bursting Bubbles
Architectuur en design opereren al lang binnen hun eigen bubbel. Er is een eigen esthetiek, logica, netwerk en vocabulaire, met als gevolg dat de architectuurwereld in zichzelf gekeerd en exclusief is geworden. De bubbel bepaalt met wie je samenwerkt, hoe projecten vorm krijgen en uiteindelijk ook wie profiteert van alle ruimtelijke productie.

In het kader van VOLUME’s bijdrage aan de 19e Architectuurbiënnale van Venetië, gecureerd door Carlo Ratti, bracht VOLUME 68 dertien duo’s samen. Architecten en ontwerpers gingen in dialoog met inspirerende figuren buiten hun eigen bubbel, op zoek naar raakvlakken en uitwisseling van kennis over hun praktijk.
