Celtic Male Ensemble
The ensemble were formed in 2014 by their musical director, Alastair Taylor, to perform the winning entry of the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival composer’s competition. From that moment on the ensemble acquired the singing ‘bug’ and haven’t looked back since. The group perform a wide range of music including pop and rock classics, songs from the shows, folk, traditional choral and big band swing.
The ensemble have performed all over the County including the magnificent Minack theatre at Porthcurno plus several appearances at Truro cathedral, including one performance where they sang with internationally renowned tenor John Trelevan.
Despite the relative infancy of the choir they have achieved considerable success in several competitions including the Edgar Kessell Gold Cup for best overall choir in the County Music Festival at the first attempt. The choir has twice won at the Camborne Music Festival including special awards for best overall choir, highest mark and best performance at the festival. At the 2019 International Male Choral Festival, held in Truro cathedral, the choir were the best UK choir in their category and the best Cornish choir overall which was then exceeded at the same festival in 2022 when they won 4 trophies including best UK overall and best Cornish choir in the Festival.
