I, Yuki Tessler, offer Kintsugi and Maki-e (Urushi art) workshops and courses in major cities in the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and Belgium. Originally from Saitama, Japan, I began my diverse journey as a stage lighting designer in Tokyo for ten years. My deep interest in traditional Japanese dances and culture greatly influences my work. Additionally, I have learned practically through my work the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship through the long history of stage culture.
I majored in Philosophy in Buddhism at university in Tokyo, which helped me understand the Japanese mentality and the social aspects of Wabi-Sabi and the Zen concept. Since moving outside Japan in 2002, my appreciation for Japan’s traditional heritage and techniques has only deepened, particularly my respect for Japanese craftsmanship.
Today, Kintsugi philosophy and the art of urushi (Japanese lacquer) are central to my work. Kintsugi allows me to embrace imperfection both mentally and physically, while exploring urushi gives me insights into Japanese traditions and customs.
It is my pleasure to share the knowledge and techniques of Kintsugi with a wide audience to spread Japanese culture and philosophy. My profile demonstrates a deep commitment to cultural exchange.
