Actuele uitdagingen in Mobile Forensics: Extractie en Encryptie

Anonimiteit staat bij communicatie tussen criminelen centraal. Apps met end-to-end encryptie zoals Telegram maar ook minder bekende platforms zoals Discord, zijn daarom zeer populair in het criminele circuit. Dit brengt voor de opsporingsinstantie de nodige uitdagingen met zich mee.

Toch wil dat niet zeggen dat deze communicatie daadwerkelijk anoniem blijft. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan de versleutelde berichtendienst EncroChat die afgelopen jaar door Nederlandse en Belgische autoriteiten werd gehackt. Naast het hacken van dergelijke communicatie apps, biedt het ook de inbeslagname van een telefoon, computer of andere gegevensdrager de kans waardevolle versleutelde/geëncrypte informatie te achterhalen.

Tijdens het webinar “Actuele uitdagingen in Mobile Forensics: Extractie en Encryptie” dat op 18 mei a.s. plaatsvindt, laat Tanya Pankova van Oxygen Forensics samen met André Hakkers van DataExpert zien hoe versleutelde gegevens kunnen worden achterhaald die afkomstig zijn van zowel vergrendelde als ontgrendelde toestellen. Current Challenges in Mobile Forensics: Extraction and Encryption

Anonymity is central to communication between criminals. Apps with end-to-end encryption such as Telegram but also less-known platforms such as Discord, are therefore very popular in the criminal circuit. This entails challenges for investigative agencies.

Yet this does not mean that these communications actually remain anonymous. Consider, for example, the encrypted messaging service EncroChat that was hacked by Dutch and Belgian authorities last year. In addition to hacking these apps, the seizure of a phone, computer or other data carrier also offers the opportunity to retrieve valuable encrypted information.

During the webinar "Current Challenges in Mobile Forensics: Extraction and Encryption" that will take place on May 18, Tanya Pankova from Oxygen Forensics together with André Hakkers from DataExpert will show how to retrieve encrypted data from both locked and unlocked devices.
