Crafting Conversation-Starters Together

Crafting Conversation-Starters Together is a monthly pressure-cooker workshop where a small group gathers to design conversation card games for real situations they want to navigate - each session guided by a monthy theme. Together with other participants, you'll draw from one another's lived experiences and personal design processes to craft questions and simple conversational rules you can use in everyday life.

The theme for our first year is "Recovering Lost Connections".

Most of us have someone - an old friend, a family member, a colleague - who used to be part of our regular orbit but slowly slipped away. We wonder how they're doing. We imagine reconnecting, yet feel awkward about where to begin. Sometimes we avoid reaching out because we fear they'll be distant, unresponsive, or that the interaction will feel heavy or disappointing.

But are those assumptions true? And even if some of them are, might it still be worthwhile to try - so that we understand the state of the relationship with clarity rather than guesswork? In attempting to recover a lost connection, we may also learn something about ourselves that we wouldn't have discovered otherwise.

So how do we start?

In this session, we will create a small set of questions that can gently reopen a dormant relationship, along with simple rules that help us enter, sustain, or gracefully exit an awkward conversation. Our ingredients will be: step-by-step guidance from Youn Choi of Kamer Drie, the group's collective knowledge, handmade papers and stamps, and - equally essential - fresh coffee and tea lovingly prepared by LUA.
