The Good, the Bad, and the AI: Group Exploration of Dystopian AI Design

Ever wondered what could happen if AI went rogue? If you’re reading this, you’re most likely interested in AI ethics and the development of responsible AI. But what if we let go of the reins and explore what lessons we can learn from evil AI?

On April 30th, we’ll gather to delve into the world of badly designed and executed AI and craft our own evil AI. The plan is to brainstorm and design evil AI in small groups, pitch your concepts, and then collaborate to brainstorm preventive measures against the emergence of such malevolent AI. With this workshop, we’ll explore ethical AI from an unconventional perspective, so we’re excited for you to join us!

Why should you join?

• Get creative by collaborating in small groups to brainstorm and design your own evil AI.
• Gain a fresh perspective and expand your horizons as you explore ethical AI from an unconventional starting point.
• Enhance your knowledge on AI ethics by working together to brainstorm preventive measures against the emergence of malevolent AI.

About facilitator Marijn Prins

This workshop is initiated and led by dedicated DAIEC member Marijn Prins. Marijn is currently pursuing a Master's degree in AI at Utrecht University, where they contribute to the study programme as the secretary of the AI programme council. Beyond their academic pursuits, Marijn is passionate about teaching and theatre, working as a Tech teacher at primary schools for the Virtual Reality Learning Lab, and participating in the theatre committee of their study association. We’re very excited Marijn came to us with their idea, so this is also a reminder to you that you can always reach out to us if you have an idea for a DAIEC event you’d like to organise!

The Green Land is a data ethics consulting agency in Utrecht that works towards a society in which data and technology are used in an inclusive, open, responsible and equal manner. They encourage responsible data use by governments through topics such as data ethics, citizen science, open data and holistic data governance. In practice, this means that they organize creative workshops, provide advice and implement it. They do this for clients in the Netherlands (such as municipalities, independent governing bodies and ministries) and far beyond (the European Commission, OECD and foreign governments). Joining the event straight after work/uni or just hungry?

We will order some food and eat dinner together, join us! We will order Mexican food from Chidóz (at your own expense). To see their delivery menu, click here.
