Welcome to 'Circularity: The New Shape of Chemistry', a dynamic symposium organized by the study association of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the Eindhoven University of Technology, T.S.V. 'Jan Pieter Minckelers’.

In an era marked by resource scarcity and the urgency of addressing climate change, the symposium is a ground for process engineers and molecular chemists to gather together to reckon circularity as an invaluable contribution to a more sustainable future. Students and professionals alike are invited to immerse themselves in a day filled with expert speakers and enriching networking opportunities, delving into the significant of circular innovation in the modern chemical industry.

During the day, eight speakers that are expert within their field will give a presentation about different topics related to circular chemistry. To already give you some insight into the topics covered, some of the speakers are listed below.

  • Dr. Katrien Bernaerts (Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials, Maastcht University) will talk about covalent adaptable networks derived from biomass sources.
  • Dr. Süleyman Er (DIFFER) will come to the symposium to share his experience of using AI to discover molecules for energy storage.
  • Dr. Bernhard von Vacano (BASF) is an expert in the field of polymeric materials with a recycled and biobased feedstock.
  • Jo Peters (Chemelot Circular Hub) will talk about the circular transition of the Chemelot campus and the challenges of creating a fully circular site.
  • Dr. Fabian Eisenreich (TU/e) will be present to discuss polymers designed for closed-loop recycling and incorporating bio-based buidling blocks in polymer achitecture.
  • Prof. Jaap den Doelder and dr. Melissa Dunkle (Dow) will focus on the challenges and opportunities of technology in chemically and mechenically recycling polymers.
  • Dr. Sipke Wadman (Shell) will talk about the role of carbon in energy transition scenarios and alternative sources of carbon.

Furthermore, a speaker from Water & Energy Solutions will be present as well to talk about the sustainable innovations within their companies.

At the helm of the symposium stands Dr. Antoni Forner-Cuenca, an esteemed associate professor in the research group Electrochemical Materials and Systems at the TU/e. Dr. Forner-Cuenca's group specializes in developing electrochemical technologies to tackle modern challenges in energy and sustainability. We are honoured to have Dr. Forner-Cuenca as our Chairman of the Day, guiding us through a day of enlightening discussions and insights.
