What makes a book "rare"? Must all old books come with a high price tag? Join us as we explore these questions and more in The World of Rare Books, a workshop hosted by Charlotte Zhu at the Amsterdam Antiquarian Bookstore.
This event offers a fascinating introduction to rare books published in the early modern Netherlands, featuring works that span from literature to poetry. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with original historical materials and discover what makes them unique—not just in age or condition, but in content, context, and cultural value.
Charlotte Zhu is a PhD researcher at the University of Amsterdam, where her research focuses on the transmission of ancient astrological texts. With her background in historical texts and deep passion for the printed past, she will guide attendees through the world of rare books with insight and enthusiasm.
The workshop will be conducted in English and is open to all curious minds. You're warmly invited—welcome!
