Over dit evenement
The multidimensionality of health in an urban environment serves as lead of the day. Urban health will, therefore, be presented in a context of, environment, inclusiveness and business. The dimensions of urban health will be explored by way of, (i) academic brainstorming, (ii) turning academic ideas in applied research, (iii) and implementation of scientific knowledge in daily practice. We will invite participants to share their own views on urban health. All-together, we will arrive at a multi-faceted view on health in an urban environment.

LECTURERS
Roosmarijn van de Velde is Chief New European Bauhaus at Leiden European City of Science 2022. The New European Bauhaus program is future oriented and focuses on mixing science, art and society. The main goal: fostering the sustainable transition and giving voice to future generations. The Stadsbauhaus in Leiden is headquarters of the New European Bauhaus Leiden, as well as the overarching Leiden European City of Science 2022 program. In the Stadsbauhaus the young program-team organizes a wide array of events and conferences where scientists, artists and citizens join forces for a better future. The New European Bauhaus Leiden is inspired by a movement of the same name, part of the European Green Deal. Leiden2022 is partner of the New European Bauhaus Network, in which many international organizations come together with a focus on sustainability, inclusion and esthetics. Read more
Roy Remme is Assistant Professor in Urban Ecosystem Services and Nature-based Solutions. Roy’s research revolves around the importance of nature in cities and the benefits it provides to people. He is interested in understanding how, when, and where nature impacts people, who benefits from nature, and how the benefits of nature can be leveraged to develop more sustainable, resilient, and healthy cities. His research straddles multiple fields, including ecology, geography, environmental economics, and environmental governance. He has a keen interest in developing and applying spatial models and tools that inform decision-making. Read more
Marco Roos is researcher of Naturalis focusing on biodiversity in urban areas. His main interest is in rewilding cities, i. e. spontaneous plant growth and in soil/vegetation succession as a way towards nature inclusive urbanization. Special attention is needed for what can be called hidden biodiversity, small organisms and microbes. Although often neglected or even disliked, these organisms play an important role in healthy urban ecosystems. Read more
Hans Slabbekoorn is Associate Professor in Acoustic Ecology & Behaviour. He has investigated natural soundscapes for almost 25 years in air and water, in forests and cities, in Europe, Asia, and North- and South-America. His expertise concerns observational and experimental studies about the role in life of variation in natural sounds and about the impact of anthropogenic sounds from noisy human activities on the presence, health, communication, reproductive success, and survival of animals. Humans often share the conditions and consequences of urban soundscapes with animals in cities. Read more

I worked on the evaluation and design of interventions for walkable cities, car-free and low-traffic environments, 30km/h speed limits. I have a background in Economics (BSc and MSc) and have 10 years of experience in the fields of public health, urban management and transport geography. Read more
Fonz Dekkers is an industrial ecologist who looks at the built environment as a natural system. In our current society, flows of energy, materials and water are quite similar and linear. If we still want to live and work in our precious delta, we need to rethink our urban environment into a more complex, diverse and adaptive system. Just as in nature, we need to evolve in order to grow. As a program manager, Fonz is responsible for the transition towards an energy neutral (2030) and completely circular (2050) water authority.
