Academie van Bouwkunst
Located on Waterlooplein in the centre of Amsterdam is the Academy of Architecture. The place where you build a sustainable future for yourself and the world while working and learning.
The Academy of Architecture offers three different Master's programmes: Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape Architecture, focusing on combining studying and working at the same time. Within its walls, you take classes from more than 200 (international) guest lecturers. Parallel to your education at the Academy, you will work at a self-chosen organisation within the sector. During your studies, we will also challenge you to spend time on practice-oriented research. From research, you will deepen the architectural craft and develop your own artistic vision. To make this as accessible and attractive as possible, the professorships are located in the middle of the Academy.
The Academy of Architecture believes that by placing students right in the middle of practice, a progressive, skilled and well-educated new generation of architecture professionals will enter the field.
Building towards a sustainable future
Rapid climate change is affecting human life on earth. The resulting challenges also affect the new crop of architects and urban planners. The focus of design is shifting towards climate adaptation. To ultimately build in a circular, nature-positive and future-proof manner.
Because of the high urgency of this theme, the Academy of Architecture regularly organises debates in which speakers from the architectural profession, science and politics are guests. During these debates, people discuss and debate how the future could be more sustainable, inclusive and fair. Because we believe architecture plays a crucial role in this, you will be challenged to contribute ideas on how you can help shape this future.
Interdisciplinary and international
The three different Masters within the Academy of Architecture are closely linked. We are a small-scale and personal Academy with a lot of space and attention for your development. As part of the AHK, we look at your growth both as an architect and as an artist.
Interdisciplinary collaborations and regular meetings between students from the three different directions are an important pillar within the school. We believe that this cross-pollination ensures that our students are trained as makers with a broad view of the world and the professional field.
