Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG)
Established in 1990, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) is Ireland’s leading marine conservation charity, dedicated to the conservation and better understanding of whales, dolphins and porpoises in Irish waters through research, education, awareness and advocacy.
As a registered charity (CHY11163), the IWDG works with citizen scientists, researchers, coastal communities, policymakers and partner organisations to monitor cetacean populations, promote marine conservation, and inspire public engagement with Ireland’s rich marine biodiversity.
The IWDG coordinates national sightings and recording schemes, conducts research and monitoring programmes, provides educational resources and training opportunities, and advocates for the protection of Ireland’s marine environment. Through events, workshops, whale-watching experiences and community outreach, the organisation encourages people of all ages to connect with and appreciate the remarkable marine wildlife found around Ireland’s coast.
